Volunteering

Why volunteer for us?

Our volunteers are the heart and soul of The Maypole Project, with around 80 wonderful individuals who volunteer their time and effort to us in a variety of different roles. Here at The Maypole Project, we value the time, skills and experience that volunteers contribute to our work. That is why we offer our volunteers excellent training and support so they can get the most out of their time volunteering with us.

There are many reasons why people have told us they volunteer at The Maypole Project including:

  • To contribute their time to a cause they feel passionate about
  • To develop skills and experience for employment
  • To get out of the house and meet new people
  • To try something new and keep active
  • To contribute to their Duke of Edinburgh Award hours (Silver and Gold Award)
  • To use their professional skills and experience after retirement or on a career break

We asked some of our current volunteers what they would say to someone considering volunteering at The Maypole Project, and this is what they said…

“Just go for it! It’s an amazing opportunity and you will gain as much, if not more than what you give.”

“It’s a very fulfilling, humbling experience that will not only develop your personal skills and experience, but also supports the work of the charity in reaching out to as many families as possible.”

“You will receive far more than you will every give…the kids’ smiles say it all.”

We also asked what words our volunteers would use to describe their time volunteering with us:

“Inspiring, rewarding, challenging, fulfilling, fun, thoughtful, happiness”
