Children will be diagnosed between the ages of 0 – 18, but the family can be referred at ANY time from birth onwards (see examples of support following a child’s death below).
Maypole Bereavement Support
When Anne’s son James died of cancer it was the Maypole Project that kept her going. ‘They kept me sane and supported me when my whole life was falling apart. Odd as it may sound, they boosted my sense of humour when the world was very bleak. This should not be underrated – it keeps you alive.’
At first Anne was sceptical. She had been talking to friends and family, but soon realised that talking to an unknown Counsellor is completely different. ‘At no time did I feel I had an “appointment slot”, time was made for me and me alone. It was important to know that I was really being listened to and understood, even when I did not particularly understand what I was feeling myself.’
The Maypole Project’s Family Support Workers are trained by experts to understand key issues affecting families. They receive regular professional supervision, which maintains the high standard of their work.
