What is Maypole Support?

The Maypole Project provides a unique pattern of emotional psychological/social support which is based on and led by the families’ needs.  It’s unique because of the way that it’s provided; flexible and on-going, professional and understanding.

Children who have been diagnosed with a chronic illness between the ages of 0 – 18 can access our support.

When a family is referred to The Maypole Project, where it is possible, we suggest a meeting with the whole family.  In this meeting we explain all the services we provide and, through this initial session, begin to help the family and/or each family member to decide what support they need. In this way our flexible support can be designed to fit each person’s needs.

On-going support for the whole family can be through supportive home visits or family therapy.

“The Maypole Project has helped us as a whole family. This is really important as everyone in the family is affected by the illness, not just me. I am truly grateful for their help”.

What’s new?

Drama Therapy sessions at The Maypole Project!

Drama Therapy aims for participants to use their dramatic creativity to explore their self expression.  An example of a drama therapy exercise is to work with a client’s story which will progress into an exploration of personal identification and expression.

An initial taster session can provide an insight into drama as a therapeutic process through exercises such as: warm up and checking in, the client’s story, closing the session and checking out.

Depending on if a Drama Therapy is an individual or group intervention, or for adults or children, the sessions last between 30 minutes – an hour and a half.  This will be established at or before the start of sessions.
