A unique service for unique people.

Background

The Maypole Project was established as a registered charity in 2003 following a successful bid to the National Lottery.  The project was initially based at Orpington Hospital before moving to first floor premises in Orpington High Street.  Five years later the lack of access proved an issue for an expanding service working with disabled children so a new home was sought.

In August 2010 The Maypole Project moved to a low rent property in Green Street Green near Orpington specifically designed for its needs.  The new premises has wonderful support rooms, light, bright space and a shop to generated income to support the charity.

The shop, “The Maypole @ 51” opened in December 2010 selling quality new and pre-loved clothes and accessories with a vintage corner plus “shop in shop” spaces for guest craft sales.

We are thrilled that The Maypole @ 51 now runs craft groups for children with complex medical needs, their siblings and children from the wider community thanks to funding from BBC Children In Need.

The Maypole Project is a professional service founded on person-centred psychosocial practice.  Best practice is developed through the continuing research of its founder, Sally Flatteau Taylor and with professionals in the field which, along with the project’s ongoing programme of evaluation, helps shape our family service.

Be part of something special this year and join us for a 5k or 10k run.

Following last year’s huge success, we’re pleased to announce we have places in the Superhero 5k Fun Run in Regent’s Park on Sunday 13th May. The run is open to heroes from age 8 upwards, making it a great family run. Better still, superhero costumes are provided!!

We also have places in the popular British Asics 10k Run on Sunday 8th July. The traffic-free route takes runners along Whitehall and the banks of the Thames. It’s a great opportunity to see London’s scenic streets like you’ve never seen them before.

For more information about these runs or any of our other challenges, please email us at info@themaypoleproject.co.uk or call the Active Challenges team on 01689 85 15 96.
