The Maypole Project was established in 2003 and due to its success became a registered charity in 2007.
The Maypole Project is a professional service founded on person-centred psychosocial practice. Best practice is developed through the continuing research of its founder, Sally Flatteau Taylor and with professionals in the field which, along with the project’s ongoing programme of evaluation, helps shape our family service.
The Maypole Project aims to relieve and help preserve the mental and physical well-being of children and young people who have complex medical needs and disabilities and to support their family members as well as others who are affected by their suffering and, in certain cases, bereavement.
We aim to educate, support and preserve the mental and physical well-being of carers and professionals working with such families and help them with issues of loss and bereavement.
We educate the general public about emotional support available and how it can be provided to families.
Mission and Vision
Every year, 12 to 17 of every 10,000 children are diagnosed with an illness and/or disability that threatens or shortens life, 65% of these families will need to seek professional support. The diagnosis itself is life-shattering and stressful for each and every family member.
Our promise to be alongside families every step of the way, creating an package of emotional support tailored to their needs. We offer the whole family support for as long as it is needed.
Our vision is for all families who have a child with a chronic illness or disability to have access to a Maypole Project Support Worker at this time of great need.
We have been given the opportunity to offer Drama Therapy sessions to our families. Click here to find out more.
