The Maypole Project provides a lifeline of support for children with complex medical needs and their whole family. We support over 190 children with life threatening, life limiting illnesses and their families every year across South East London.
The Maypole Project provides unique emotional support that is ongoing, flexible, responsive, professional and confidential. Each family is supported by one of our key workers who are specifically trained and supervised to offer emotional support, which ranges from befriending to counselling or therapy. This can be offered to whole families, one to one, couples, groups, and also extends into provision of information, advice and advocacy.
Why we are needed
Every year, 12 to 17 of every 10,000 children are diagnosed with an illness and/or disability that threatens or shortens life, 65% of these families will need to seek professional support.
The diagnosis itself is life-shattering and stressful for each and every family member.
The Maypole Project provides unique emotional support that is ongoing, flexible, responsive, professional and confidential. A specially chosen and trained key worker will help the family choose from our services.
