Welcome to The Maypole Project

Francesca - The Maypole ProjectThe Maypole Project provides a lifeline of support for children with complex medical needs and their whole family. We support many children with life threatening, life limiting illnesses and their families every year across South East London.

The Maypole Project provides unique emotional support that is ongoing, flexible, responsive, professional and confidential. Each family is supported by one of our key workers who are specifically trained and supervised to offer emotional support, which ranges from befriending to counselling or therapy. This can be offered to whole families, one to one, couples, groups, and also extends into provision of information, advice and advocacy.

The Mayor of London visits The Maypole Project

We were incredibly proud to hear that The Mayor of London chose to visit The Maypole Project to support us through a personal visit. It meant so much to our staff, volunteers and stakeholders to be able to outline the wide variety of support we provide.

Boris Johnson described the project’s services and achievements as “outstanding”. He said “This is an extremely worthwhile cause, helping sick and disabled young people to have fun, lead good quality lives and also get active through sports.”

Through the visit of The Mayor of London, alongside the positive recommendation from families and professionals The Maypole Project’s reputation for excellence in providing support is growing.

However, it is vital that we ensure we can match the requests for our services. Can you volunteer a few hours, take part in one of our fundraising events or organise your own event, get your company involved?

Why we are needed

Every year, 12 to 17 of every 10,000 children are diagnosed with an illness and/or disability that threatens or shortens life, 65% of these families will need to seek professional support.

The diagnosis itself is life-shattering and stressful for each and every family member.

We are a charity, and we rely on the generosity of our supporters to enable us to continue to provide vital support and services to families who have children with complex and life threatening illnesses. There are lots of ways you can get involved.
